Differences
Paste two texts above to see their differences here.
The two texts are identical.
These texts are too long and too different to compare this way. Try comparing by line.
How it works
-
Paste both versions
Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right. The comparison starts as soon as you stop typing.
-
Pick how to compare
Compare word by word for prose, line by line for lists and code, or character by character for short strings. Show the result side by side or combined.
-
Review the changes
Added text is underlined and highlighted, removed text is crossed out. Copy the differences to share them.
Frequently asked questions
Are my texts uploaded to compare them?
No. The comparison runs in your browser, so both texts stay on your device. You can safely compare contracts, drafts or private notes.
Should I compare by word, line or character?
Word is best for articles, letters and other prose. Line suits lists, data and code, and shows the changed words inside each modified line. Character is useful for short strings such as codes, names or numbers where a single letter matters.
How do I read the result?
Text that was added is underlined on a blue background. Text that was removed is crossed out on a grey background. Everything else is unchanged. The counters show how many words, lines or characters were added and removed.
Can it ignore small differences?
Yes. You can ignore uppercase and lowercase differences, and in line mode you can ignore spaces at the start and end of each line, such as indentation.
What does the copied result look like?
In line mode, each line starts with a minus sign if it was removed and a plus sign if it was added. In word and character mode, removed text is wrapped in [- -] and added text in [+ +], so the changes stay readable in an email or a chat.
