How it works
-
Add a photo
Drop one or more photos, choose them, or paste an image. People, pets, products and objects all work.
-
Let the AI cut it out
The subject is detected and its edges refined on your device. The first time takes longer, while the AI model downloads.
-
Choose a background and download
Keep it transparent, or pick white or any color. Check the result with the slider, then download as PNG, WebP or JPG.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device, with your graphics card when the browser allows it. Your photos never leave your device.
Which AI model does it use?
Two open source segmentation models, chosen for your device. With a graphics card: BiRefNet lite (MIT licence), the most precise. Without one: IS-Net (Apache 2.0 licence), lighter, so it also runs on phones. Both work on all kinds of subjects, not only people.
Why is the first photo slow?
The first time, the tool asks you before downloading the AI engine and model: about 125 MB when your graphics card can be used, about 70 MB otherwise. They are kept on your device, so later photos start right away. Without a graphics card, each photo takes from a few seconds on a recent computer to about a minute on a phone.
Is the result in full resolution?
Yes. The AI works on a reduced copy, then the cut-out is applied to the original pixels with an edge-aware filter, so hair and fine edges follow the real photo.
How do I get a transparent PNG?
Leave the background on Transparent and the format on PNG, which are the defaults. WebP also keeps transparency in a smaller file. JPG can’t, so it gets a white or colored background.
What if part of the subject is missing?
Automatic cut-outs work best when the subject stands out clearly from the background. Busy backgrounds, glass or a subject with the same color as its surroundings can confuse the AI. Try a photo with more contrast.
