Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. A PNG keeps exactly the pixels of the JPG, so it won’t look worse, but it can’t bring back detail the JPG compression already removed. The benefit is that further edits and saves won’t lose anything more.
Why is the PNG bigger than my JPG?
PNG is lossless: it stores every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away details you barely see. For photos, a PNG is often three to ten times larger. That’s expected.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
Not by itself: a JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same opaque background. To cut out the subject, use our background remover, which exports a transparent PNG.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.
Is the photo’s EXIF data kept?
No. The PNG contains only the picture, without GPS location, dates or camera details. Rotated photos are turned the right way up first.
