How it works
-
Add your images
Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF or BMP files. Several at once is fine.
-
Wait a little longer
AVIF compresses very efficiently, which takes more work than JPG or WebP. Large photos may need a few seconds each on your device.
-
Download
Compare before and after, check the size saved, then download each AVIF or all of them in a zip file.
Frequently asked questions
What is AVIF?
AVIF is a royalty-free image format from the Alliance for Open Media, based on the AV1 video codec. At the same visual quality, its files are usually smaller than WebP and much smaller than JPG.
Can every browser show AVIF?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (from iOS 16 and macOS Ventura) display AVIF. Older systems and many desktop apps can’t, so keep a JPG or WebP fallback if needed.
Why is AVIF conversion slower?
AVIF searches harder for the most compact way to store the image. On this page it runs on your own processor, so a large photo can take a few seconds. Smaller images convert almost instantly.
Does AVIF keep transparency?
Yes. AVIF supports transparency, so logos and cut-out images stay see-through.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The AVIF files are encoded in your browser with libavif compiled to WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to a server.
