Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is compressed by your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.

How does the compression work?

Most of a PDF’s weight usually comes from its photos and scans. They are resized to what the page really needs and saved again with a lighter quality. The rest of the file is then packed more tightly, without changing its text.

Will my text stay sharp?

Yes. Text, fonts and drawings are not touched, so they stay perfectly sharp and searchable. Only images are made lighter.

Why didn’t my file get smaller?

Some PDFs are already well compressed, or contain mostly text. If the new version would not be smaller, you get your original file back and the tool tells you so.

Which level should I choose?

Recommended works for most documents you send by email. Choose Light if you plan to print, and Strong when a website or form limits the file size.

Install One For All on your computer

One For All then opens in its own window, like an app, straight from your desktop or home screen. Nothing to download from a store, and your files still stay on your device.

  1. Click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the browser menu (⋮).
  2. Choose “Install One For All” or “Install page as app”: a shortcut is added to your desktop and your apps.

Download this tool’s engine?

This tool works entirely in your browser. To do that, it needs to download the items below from One For All, just once. They are then kept on this device, so next time the tool starts right away.

Your files are never sent anywhere.
