How it works

  1. Add your PDF

Drop a PDF or pick it from your device. Its text appears right away, page after page.

  2. Check the text

Read it, fix it if you like, and choose whether to show where each page starts.

  3. Copy or download

Copy the text in one click, or download it as a .txt file that opens anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The text is read by your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.

Why is some text missing?

Scanned pages are pictures of text, not real text. The tool tells you which pages are concerned; OCR PDF can read them.

Is the layout kept?

The text keeps its lines and paragraphs, but not its fonts, columns or tables. For a faithful copy of the layout, keep the PDF itself.

Does it work with every language?

Yes, as long as the PDF contains real text: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Russian and every other script come out as written. The .txt file uses UTF-8 so every character is kept.

Why are some words broken or in the wrong order?

Some PDFs store text in odd pieces, for instance in several columns or with letters placed one by one. The text is all there, but you may need to tidy it up.

Install One For All on your computer

One For All then opens in its own window, like an app, straight from your desktop or home screen. Nothing to download from a store, and your files still stay on your device.

  1. Click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the browser menu (⋮).
  2. Choose “Install One For All” or “Install page as app”: a shortcut is added to your desktop and your apps.

Download this tool’s engine?

This tool works entirely in your browser. To do that, it needs to download the items below from One For All, just once. They are then kept on this device, so next time the tool starts right away.

Your files are never sent anywhere.
