Frequently asked questions
Will the alarm ring if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The countdown is worked out from your device’s clock rather than by counting ticks, so it stays exact in a background tab, and the alarm is scheduled for the exact end time. Keep the page open: closing or reloading the tab stops the timer. On some phones the browser pauses a page when the screen locks; the “Keep the screen on” option helps there.
Why can’t I hear the alarm?
Browsers only allow a page to make sound after you have clicked or pressed a key on it, which starting the timer does. Check that “Ring an alarm at the end” is ticked, that your device isn’t muted or in silent mode, and use “Test the sound” to check the volume. The chime is generated in your browser, so there is no file to download.
Can I show the timer full screen?
Yes. Press the full-screen button or the F key to fill the screen with the countdown, which is handy in a classroom, a meeting or a kitchen. Press Esc to leave. Some phones, such as iPhones, don’t allow web pages to go full screen; there the button is hidden.
Which keyboard shortcuts can I use?
Space starts, pauses or resumes the countdown, and stops the alarm when it rings. R resets it and F switches full screen on or off. Shortcuts are ignored while you type in a field, so they never get in the way.
How long can the countdown be?
From one second up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. The presets cover the most common durations, from 1 to 30 minutes, and your last duration is remembered in this browser for next time.
Is anything sent or recorded?
No. The timer runs entirely in your browser. Nothing about your countdown is sent to a server; only your last duration and settings are kept, on your own device.
