Frequently asked questions
How does the converter handle daylight saving time?
It uses the time zone rules built into your browser, which record when each zone changes its clocks. The offset is worked out for the exact date you choose, so a meeting in July and one in January can show different differences between the same two cities.
What happens with a time that doesn’t exist or happens twice?
When clocks jump forward, an hour is skipped: 2:30 doesn’t exist in Paris on the last Sunday of March. The converter moves it forward by the length of the jump and tells you. When clocks go back, an hour happens twice; the converter uses the first one and says so.
Why are some time zones 30 or 45 minutes apart?
Not every country uses whole hours. India is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC, Nepal 5 hours 45 minutes, and Lord Howe Island in Australia moves its clocks by only 30 minutes in summer. The converter shows these offsets exactly.
What is the difference between UTC and GMT?
For everyday use they show the same time. UTC is the time standard that clocks are based on, while GMT is the time zone of the United Kingdom in winter. London switches to BST, one hour ahead, in summer; UTC never changes.
How do I find a good time for a meeting across time zones?
Add every participant’s city, then look at the meeting planner: working hours from 9:00 to 17:00 are highlighted and night hours are dimmed. Choose a column where every row is highlighted, or as close as possible.
Is my list of cities saved?
Only in your own browser, so you find it on your next visit. It is never sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.
