Frequently asked questions
Which meta tags matter most for SEO?
The title tag and the meta description. The title is a strong signal and is usually shown as the link in search results. The description doesn’t affect ranking directly, but a good one makes people more likely to click.
What are Open Graph tags?
Open Graph tags tell Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and many other apps which title, description and image to show when someone shares your link. Without them, apps guess, often badly.
Do I need separate tags for X (Twitter)?
Not many. X reads the Open Graph title, description and image, so the generator only adds the card type and, if you want, your account name.
What size should my sharing image be?
Use an image of 1200 × 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) for large previews. Keep important text away from the edges, as some apps crop the image. Use a full address starting with https://.
What is a canonical URL?
It’s the main address of a page. If the same content is reachable through several addresses, for example with tracking parameters, the canonical tag tells search engines which one to show in results.
Is the meta keywords tag still useful?
No. Google and Bing have ignored it for years, so this generator leaves it out.
