Your barcode appears here as soon as you type a number or text.
The PNG couldn’t be created. Try a smaller bar width.
The blank margins on each side are part of the code: keep them when you place it.
How it works
-
Choose the type
EAN-13 for products in shops, UPC-A in North America, Code 128 or Code 39 for labels and inventory, ITF-14 for cartons.
-
Type the number or text
For product codes, the check digit is calculated for you, or checked if you type it. Characters a format can’t hold are pointed out right away.
-
Download and print
Set the bar width and height, then download a PNG, or an SVG that stays sharp at any print size. Keep the blank margins: scanners need them.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I get a product number (EAN or UPC)?
To sell in shops, your product numbers must come from GS1, the organization that manages them in each country. This tool draws the barcode; it doesn’t assign numbers. For internal use (stock, library, events), Code 128 or Code 39 with your own references works fine.
What is the check digit?
The last digit of an EAN, UPC or ITF-14 is calculated from the others, so a scanner can spot a misread. Type the number without it and it’s added; type it and it’s checked, with the correct value suggested if it’s wrong.
Which barcode type should I choose?
EAN-13 for retail products worldwide, UPC-A in the United States and Canada, EAN-8 for very small packs. Code 128 holds letters, digits and symbols compactly, ideal for labels and shipping. Code 39 is older and wider, but almost every scanner reads it. ITF-14 goes on cartons and outer cases.
What size should I print it?
The standard size of an EAN-13 is about 37 × 26 mm (1.5 × 1 in), and it can be reduced to 80% or enlarged to 200%. Print dark bars on a white background with a laser or good inkjet printer, and never squash the code sideways. The SVG stays sharp at any size.
Why are there blank margins around the barcode?
Scanners need a quiet zone, a blank area on each side, to find where the code starts and ends. The tool always includes the minimum set by the standard, for example 11 bar widths on the left of an EAN-13. Don’t crop it, and keep text and lines out of it.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The barcode is drawn in your browser and the files are created on your device, so confidential references never leave your computer.
