How it works
-
Pick a version
Use v4 for a plain random identifier, or v7 when IDs should sort by creation time.
-
Set the quantity and format
Generate up to 1,000 at once, in uppercase, without hyphens, in braces or in quotes for code.
-
Copy or download
Copy the list or download it as a text file. Click Generate whenever you need a fresh batch.
Frequently asked questions
Are these UUIDs really unique?
A v4 UUID has 122 random bits from your browser’s cryptographic random generator. The chance of two ever colliding is so small that it can be ignored in practice. v7 adds the current time, which makes collisions even less likely.
Should I use v4 or v7?
v7 is the better choice for database primary keys: because new IDs sort after older ones, indexes stay compact and inserts stay fast. v4 is fine everywhere else and is supported by every system.
Is a GUID the same as a UUID?
Yes. GUID is the name Microsoft uses for the same 128-bit format. Choose uppercase and braces to get the style common in Windows and .NET, where the value is wrapped in curly brackets.
Are the UUIDs generated on your server?
No. They are created in your browser with the Web Crypto API and are never sent or stored anywhere.
Can I tell when a UUID was created?
Only for time-based versions. Versions 1, 6 and 7 contain a timestamp, which the checker below the generator reads for you. Version 4 is purely random and holds no date.
