Redact a PDF or an image

Draw black boxes over anything you want to hide. The hidden content is removed from the file, not just covered up.

How it works

  1. Open your file

Drop a PDF or an image, or choose it from your device. It opens right here in your browser.

  2. Draw black boxes

Drag across names, numbers, signatures or faces. Move, resize or delete a box at any time, with the mouse, your finger or the keyboard.

  3. Download the redacted file

The hidden content is removed from the file itself. Check it, then share it with peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hidden text really removed?

Yes. Many tools only draw a black shape on top, and the text underneath can still be copied or extracted. Here, every PDF page with a box is replaced by an image of that page with the boxes burnt in, so the text under the boxes no longer exists in the file.

Why can’t I select the text on redacted pages anymore?

Because those pages became images: it is the only way to be sure nothing hidden survives, including text in fonts, layers or comments. Pages without any box are copied as they are and keep their selectable, searchable text.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. The file is opened, redacted and saved entirely in your browser. It never leaves your device.

Does it remove the document’s metadata?

Yes. The redacted PDF is a new file without the original title, author, subject, keywords, creator or producer. Bookmarks and attachments are not carried over either. An image is redrawn from its pixels, so its EXIF data, including any GPS location, is dropped.

Can I redact on my phone?

Yes. Drag sideways across a line with your finger to draw a box, and swipe up or down to scroll. You can also tap “Add box” and adjust it.

What should I check before sharing?

Open the downloaded file and look at every page. Make sure each box fully covers what you meant to hide, including copies of the same information elsewhere in the document, such as headers, footers or other pages.

Install One For All on your computer

One For All then opens in its own window, like an app, straight from your desktop or home screen. Nothing to download from a store, and your files still stay on your device.

  1. Click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the browser menu (⋮).
  2. Choose “Install One For All” or “Install page as app”: a shortcut is added to your desktop and your apps.

Download this tool’s engine?

This tool works entirely in your browser. To do that, it needs to download the items below from One For All, just once. They are then kept on this device, so next time the tool starts right away.

Your files are never sent anywhere.
