Internet speed test
Check how fast your connection really is, and whether it’s good enough for 4K video, video calls or online games.

What your connection can handle
Run the test to see whether your connection is fast enough for each of these.
- HD video streaming About 5 Mbps download
- 4K video streaming About 25 Mbps download
- HD video calls About 3 Mbps each way
- Online gaming Ping under 50 ms
Measured between your device and our server in France. Expect lower results if you’re far away or using a VPN.
For a more accurate result
- Use a cable, or move closer to your Wi-Fi router.
- Pause downloads, streaming and backups on your other devices.
- Turn off your VPN if you use one.
How it works
-
Free up your connection
Pause downloads and videos on your devices, and use a cable or stay close to your router for a fair result.
-
Press Start
The test measures your ping first, then your download and upload speed for about 8 seconds each. You can cancel at any time.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good internet speed?
It depends on what you do. As a rough guide, HD streaming needs about 5 Mbps, 4K streaming about 25 Mbps, and an HD video call about 3 Mbps in each direction. If several people stream or work at the same time, add their needs together.
What are ping and jitter?
Ping is the time a tiny message takes to reach our server and come back, in milliseconds. Jitter is how much that time varies from one message to the next. Both matter more than speed for online games and video calls: a ping under about 50 ms feels instant, and a low jitter keeps calls smooth.
Why is my result lower than what my provider promises?
Providers advertise the maximum speed of your line. Wi-Fi, other devices on the connection, a VPN, the time of day and the distance to the test server all reduce what you actually get. This test measures the link between your device and our server in France, so visitors far from France usually see lower results. Try again with a cable to compare.
How does the test work?
Your browser sends small messages to our server to time the ping, then downloads and uploads random data over several connections at once, for about 8 seconds in each direction. The first second is left out while the connection gets up to speed. The data is random and thrown away straight after.
Does the test use a lot of data?
The faster your connection, the more it uses, because each direction runs for about 8 seconds: around 10 MB each way at 10 Mbps, and several hundred megabytes on fast fibre. Keep this in mind on a mobile plan with a data cap.
Do you keep my results?
No. Your results stay on this page and disappear when you close it: there’s no history on our server or in your browser. To prevent abuse, our server only counts how many tests each connection starts, using a fingerprint of the IP address, and allows 10 per hour.
